Devon Drummers are a protest samba band based in Exeter.

As activists, we play samba inspired rhythms as a creative form of resistance.

We use some samba percussion instruments as well as lots of DIY drums, often repurposed from old drum kits. As a diverse community of drummers we are united by our desire for climate and social justice.

As part of the wider XR Rhythms UK network and inspired by Rhythms of Resistance, we bring positive energy, solidarity and a carnival spirit to protests, actions and community events. Our music is rooted in samba-fusion, a vibrant, easy-to-learn style created by activists to help people come together in collective action.

None of us are professional musicians, and no experience is needed to join us. Our open practice sessions are free of charge and we have plenty of spare instruments. We are united by a shared love for the planet, people and all living beings. We stand against all systems of exploitation, oppression and ecological destruction.

Our band operates on democratic, non-hierarchical principles where every voice matters equally. We value inclusion, mutual support, creativity and community, and we aim to make protest feel accessible and joyful.

Everyone is welcome to make some noise with us!
